A savoury, slightly smoky flavour. Contains protein, fibre, iodine, potassium and B vitamins. Naturally high in iodine.
May contain traces of crustacea, fish and molluscs. As a product from the sea, visually inspect it in addition to soaking and rinsing to remove any shell fragments or marine debris. A white coating may appear on the seaweed; this is a natural effect of naturally occurring salts.
To use: soak in water for 5 minutes, then drain. Dulse expands to 5 times its dried weight when rehydrated. Add to soups, stews, croquettes, omelettes, pasta, rice or couscous.
Use in small quantities and sporadically, no more than 1g of dried seaweed daily (a pinch) per person.
Store in a cool, dry place.
